Artist of the Month for December 2015
Winn Wright was born in Atlanta, GA and lived around GA until graduating high school. He attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and earned a degree in graphic arts.
After receiving his degree he began doing advertising and t-shirt designs while drawing and painting at home. Winn met his wife in Fort Lauderdale and move to Atlanta and had two sons. After the birth of his second son Winn stayed at home with his sons where he could continue working on his illustrations and paintings. he started freelancing and opened BlueDEW Studio.
In 1992 he started working in a surrealist style and started drawing from shapes and images in other images. Emerging from a doodle, his style became more and more abstract and surreal. Almost all of his drawings are automatic drawings, meaning he starts drawing and allows the image to come through automatically. Winn’s goal is to create fun and humorous images that people can see many different things in his art not just what he sees.
Winn’s main influences are Da Vinci (Da Vinci said to practice drawing and creating images from a stain on the wall), Salvador Dali, Ralph Steadman, Gerald Scarfe and of course Dr. Seuss.
Winn now resides with his wife and two sons in Eureka, CA.
